The Englishman's Boy

The title of my book is called “ The Englishman’s Boy”. The author is Guy Vanderhaeghe. The date of publication was 1996. The number of pages in the book is 333.

I chose this book because I did not have a book yet and I looked at a couple and this one stood out the most. When I heard it was a western I got excited because I love western movies and I assumed the book would be good. The summary made me want to read it right away!

To be honest I really like this book. Right from the beginning it jumps you right into the situation. There is action right at the start and it makes me feel right there. All the words that the author uses makes it sound like its back in the western and I just love it.

I have only read to chapter 2 right now. It is not because it is boring, it is because I just got the book today and I do not have a lot of time right now to do so. But the book sounds very interesting and when I have more time I will get into the book and probably get lost in it.

In the book “ The Englishman’s Boy” , what’s happened so far is that an Indian I think is watching white men at there camp. The Indian is talking about all the people at the camp, one of them called Fine Man and one called Horn. The Indians are attacking the white men’s camp. It is too dangerous to do it in day so they wait for nightfall. The Indians are going after the horses and are going to steal them.

The themes that are forming are survival and spirituality because one of the Indians is talking about one of his dreams which he believes is true. The author is trying to show how the Indians were and what they did. Also mischief because the Indians want the white mans horses so things will lead up to a problem.

I found a book summary from the internet. I read some of it to decide if I wanted to read the book or not. It sounded very interesting but when I looked ahead into some of it, it was confusing because it said all this stuff that I did not think would be in it so I cant wait to read more.

I chose “ The fire died amid the charred sticks, the moon grew pale”. This spoke out to me because I remember in the summer when I was at my grandparents house for the last time before they sold it, and every night we would have a huge bonfire and stay out there until the fire would burn out. It reminded me of all the bright starts and the big bright moon, starring upon us. When we got up really in the morning we could always see the moon and see it fade away. Just that sentence reminded me so much of up north and I will never forget that place. This is kind of ironic because my grandfather loves westerns as well and we would always watch the movies up there and now im reading this book which is a western.

I will have a quarter of the book done every two weeks until its finished.
